Synopsis
MODERN MAN tells the story of one man’s search for meaning in 27 parts.
PART 1:
The man lives alone on a large estate. He cleans the pool.
PART 2:
He sweeps the tennis court.
PART 3:
He repairs lighting fixtures, and arranges the trash cans. He gathers a collection of small rocks. He places them on a slate fragment and positions them around a lamppost.
PART 4:
He plays with a stray tennis ball. He stomps on a tangled garden hose.
PART 5:
He knocks a greenhouse thermometer off its hook.
PART 6:
He ascends a large tree and stands on one of its perches. He raises his arms to the sky.
PART 7:
He moves a ceramic frog.
PART 8:
He moves a ladder.
PART 9:
He invents a game with rocks.
PART 10:
He wraps a globe with duct tape.
PART 11:
He engages with a tennis ball machine.
PART 12:
He soothes his skin with leaves.
PART 13:
He picks up tennis balls.
PART 14:
He balances the ladder.
PART 15:
He runs around the yard and sticks his head through a tire.
PART 16:
He caresses an orchid.

He exercises.

He spends the night staring into glowing lampposts.

He disappears, leaving only the landscape.

He goes into his house and finds a wall of photographs. The man sees a picture of himself as a child. He removes it from the wall, wraps it in cloth, and buries it in a trunk. Subsequently, the man resumes work and play.
